7gypsies project 1
1. Katie used a Plain album (7 5/8 x 7 3/8") to create this book about her family. She layered Messina, Curry, and Rhinebeck papers to create the cover. Notice she didn't even take the paper to the edge of the journal but used distress ink to give the edge a finished look. She also stretched out two drop spirals to act as decorative elements on the chipboard oval. It's all about layering here.

2. Katie used Curry to lead the reader into the book. The flourish is from the Calais clear stamp and the stamped label is from the clear stamp-Label it.

3. Reggio paper acts as the background on page one. Again, it's all about layering the squares and circles to create balance on each page. The large journaling block is a stamp (one of my favorites) from the Take Note clear stamp pack. The round stamp circle is also from the same pack.

4. This page may look more complex but if you look closely it's not! Curry paper and a hand drawn outline...again the paper doesn't go to the edge of the page so she could get that pen line going all the way around. That's a great trick when you are working with a large page...it almost gives the paper it's own frame. A Naked pocket is added with another journaling block from the Take Note clear stamp.
The rest of the stamps are from the Calais clear stamp. I like how Katie stamped the little bird on cardstock them added him to the top of the pocket.

5. Here, Newburg paper from the Hudson Valley collection is used as the background then layered with a piece of Reggio. Rhinebeck paper makes the stripe and Messina is cut in a very clever way to make a repeating pattern along the bottom edge., I love how she uses only the part of
the journaling card she needs...the rest of it hides under the picture.

6. Here's that Messina paper again...now you can see what the paper looked like before Katie cut it into the triangles for the last page. I told you she was a clever girl. Another trick that Katie uses in many of her journals is stamping an
image and then splitting it to make it appear bigger. You can see she used the same stamp here she used on page one (photo 3), but here she cut it in half and glued it to the top and bottom of the picture as if it runs the length of the page. '

7. Notice how she even stamped behind the corners of the paper so that the stamp just peeks out. The large circle is from the Take Note clear stamp and the word RELAX was printed on the computer and cut up.

8. Another technique to take notice of here is how she sanded the edges of each photo. This is a really easy technique and one of my favorites to use because it gives the photo an aged quality as well as a border between the paper. Just remember go easy at first and use a fine grit sand paper.Notice how Katie used one stamp on this page but it is turned and repeated up the side of the page to make a pattern.

9. Don't you just love the picture of the two little girls in inner tubes? So cute with the bathing caps. Here Katie layered three different clear stamps to make to the journaling block.

11. There the cute triangles cut from the Messina paper again!

14. Here she stamped directly on the photo with StazOn ink to highlight the people in the photo.
18. Notice how Katie cut the Messina paper in a scallop pattern by cutting away the squares of dots? The buttons add the right effect to make it look old fashioned. Again she stamped directly on the photo to focus the reader in on the little girl.
